Andrea Gnecchi: Handcrafted Excellence

The story of
Sail Guitars follows the course charted by
Andrea Davide Gnecchi, an engineer by training and musician by vocation. Born in Milan in 1969, Andrea fell in love with the guitar at fifteen and, guided by a natural aptitude for craftsmanship and woodworking, embarked on his path in luthiery as a self-taught artisan.
In 2021, the brand
Sail Guitars was born, an ideal fusion of his two great passions: luthiery and sailing.
This identity strongly emerges in every instrument, the result of over twenty years of research, study, and construction refinement. The result is luthiery with a unique character, capable of evoking the emotion of the journey and the freedom of the open sea through sound.
The Collection

Sail Guitars creations include
classical guitars,
acoustic guitars, and
acoustic basses, all handcrafted and custom-made for each musician.
The
classical guitars stand out for their innovative bracing without a lower bout crossbar, which frees the soundboard improving mid-frequency response.
The
acoustic guitars feature arched tops and backs with reduced thicknesses, enhancing responsiveness and vibration dynamics.
The
acoustic basses are designed from scratch with a large body and custom components, offering powerful sound even without amplification, unlike common hybrid models.
Construction Philosophy, Techniques, and Materials

Each Sail Guitar is born like a tailored suit, shaped around the musical identity of its future owner.
The process starts with a visit to the workshop, during which posture, technique, tonal, and ergonomic preferences are analyzed.
Material selection is meticulous:
European spruce and
cedar for the soundboards,
rosewood (Indian or Brazilian) for back and sides,
mahogany,
maple, or
cedrella for necks,
ebony and
rosewood for fingerboards and bridges.
The internal braces are hand-carved from batches of spruce selected for the best stiffness-to-weight ratio, ensuring excellent dynamic response.
Each fingerboard can be traditional or multi-scale, with a customized scale length.
The decorations are original and handmade in wood or mother-of-pearl. The finish in
French polishing (shellac) completes the instrument, optimizing its tone and aesthetic elegance.
Every guitar comes with a custom case and a
lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects and materials.
Sail Guitars also promotes
environmental sustainability: for every instrument sold, seven trees are planted in countries such as Madagascar, Haiti, Kenya, and Tanzania, in collaboration with the association Ecofactory®.
A concrete gesture of giving back and gratitude towards nature, the irreplaceable companion of luthiery.
